Three girls injured when a car being pursued by police crashed into them have injuries that are not life threatening, police say.

Twin girls aged 13 and one aged eight suffered multiple injuries when the black Ford Focus mounted the kerb in Lennard Road, Penge, on Wednesday.

Ten-year-old Makayah McDermott and his aunt, 34-year-old Rozanne Cooper, were killed in the crash.

It is believed the twins are Makayah’s sisters, and the eight-year-old Ms Cooper’s daughter.

Post-mortems are due to take place later at Princess Royal Hospital in south London.

The driver of the car, a 23-year-old man, remains in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and theft of a motor vehicle

Detectives believe he was the only person in the car, which was being chased because it was reported as stolen.
