'Stand up against racism' says MP after Harlow killing
The death of a 40-year-old man in a suspected hate crime is "disturbing and shocking", Harlow’s MP has said, as he urged the community to "stand up against racism".
Arkadiusz Jóźwik, who moved to the UK from Poland in 2012, was attacked in The Stow area of the Essex town on Saturday and died on Monday. A second man was also injured.
Six teenagers - five aged 15 and one aged 16 - were arrested on suspicion of murder. They have all since been released on police bail.
Robert Halfon, the MP for Harlow, said he was "deeply saddened" by Mr Jóźwik's death.
He said he believed "almost every single person in our town will be horrified" by the attack.
Mr Halfon said the town's Polish community had made a significant contribution to the area, reviving and regenerating parts of Harlow's high street that would otherwise have remained empty.
Police in Harlow have now been given the power to order anyone involved in crime or harassment to leave The Stow area.
The dispersal order came into effect at 7pm on Tuesday and will remain in place for 48 hours.
