A 17-year-old boy has been jailed for eight years after spraying acid at five teenage boys waiting on a train platform.

Alexander Bassey, who is from Barking, east London, left some of the teenagers with permanent scaring in the random attack.

The attack happened on May 22 when the teenagers were waiting on Ockendon platform train station in Essex. They had been to a party and were waiting for a train home.

A train pulled into the platford heading to Barking which Bassey was on and he beckoned to the group to come onto the train.

The group refused to get onto the train so Bassey got off and walked towards the group shouting abuse at them.

He then brought out a bottle containing acid from behind his back and sprayed it on them before running back onto the train.

Three of the teenagers have permanent scaring and one has what police describe as "potentially life changing eye injuries".

Bassey admitted three counts of causing grievous bodily harm and two charged of attempted grievous bodily harm at Basildon Crown Court.
