Southern rail strike causes disruption for commuters
Commuters faced fresh travel disruption this morning as members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union on Southern Railway begun a 24 hour strike over the role of conductors this morning. Many passengers have avoided traveling into the capital in anticipation of the strike action.
Routes into Victoria have been disrupted for weeks due to industrial action and 'unprecedented' levels of staff sickness. The union claim they have seen correspondence between the Department for Transport and Govia (Southern's parent group) showing the Government was authorising cancellations.
Southern have said services are largely running a revised timetable. The train operator confirmed that disruption will continue all day and is like to affect some of the early morning services on Wednesday.
