George Galloway hints he will run in Tooting by-election as Sadiq Khan prepares to quit seat
George Galloway has hinted he will run in the by-election in Tooting – a seat its MP Sadiq Khan will quit.
The Respect Party leader tweeted: “Hmmm. A Parliamentary by-election in Tooting. Interesting…”
He also retweeted a message saying he would “present a real danger to the Labour majority" in the south London seat.
Labour's Mr Khan, who has been elected London’s new mayor, was elected MP for Tooting in 2005.
In 2015, he won the seat for a third time with a majority of 2,842, ahead of Conservative candidate Dan Watkins.
Galloway was MP for Bow from 2005 to 2010, and MP for Bradford West from 2012 to 2015, after winning a by-election.
He ran for mayor of London, finishing 7th of 12 candidates with 37,007 votes.
