Cambridge's head coach has outlined a plan to trounce Oxford and end their winning streak in the Boat Race.

The women's race is already underway, the men's race starts at 4.10pm.

Cambridge head coach Steve Trapmore has outlined the characteristics his team must demonstrate if they are to end Oxford's winning streak in the Boat Race on Sunday.

They enter the 162nd edition of the race as favourites, largely owing to their superior experience, the fact they are 11.8 kilograms heavier overall, and 1.5 centimetres taller per man.

Oxford have won the past three races, however, in a wider total of six victories from eight, and the last by a margin of 19 seconds.

Since then they have lost the influential Constantine Louloudis to enter Sunday's race with one returning blue, against Cambridge's four, and in the knowledge Cambridge have added Great Britain oarsman Lance Tredell to their team.

Cambridge still lead 81-79 in the overall standings, but there will be a pressure to overcome Oxford's recent dominance, and to that end 2000 Olympic gold medallist Trapmore has attempted to change the race preparation and culture surrounding his team.

"We've looked at what we really believe will be the key attributes that we need to have on race day," the 41-year-old said.

"You need to be technically robust, you need to be mentally strong, you need to be physically fit, you need to be confident within that, you need to be confident in the guys around you as a unit, and confident in the training you've done."
