Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers dealt with a fire at a car repair workshop on Colchester Avenue in Manor Park last night.

Gas cylinders were involved in the fire and a temporary hazard zone was set up around the affected area as a precaution, as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.

Around thirty people in nearby properties self evacuated their properties before the Brigade arrived.

Once fire crews made the area safe residents were allowed to return to their homes.

Fortunately no one was injured.

Firefighters from Ilford, East Ham, Stratford, Plaistow and Leyton fire stations attended the incident.

The Brigade was called at 10.45pm and the incident was under control by 4am

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
