Former toilet in Spitalfields on sale for £1 million
A former public toilet in east-London's Spitalfields area has gone on the market for £1 million.
The basement venue in one of the capital's trendiest shopping and nightlife destinations is being marketed as a “charming and quirky premises” by property consultants Clarke and Lloyds.
A previous nightclub in the disused toilet, called Public Life, close in early 2012 when its licence was revoked by Tower Hamlets council. The club, which began in the early hours and attracted large crowds of very drunk clubbers at all hours of the day, was not not popular with the local community or businesses and there are fears the new owner could recreate these tawdry scenes.
Matt Piper, 44, chairman of the Spitalfields Community Group told the Evening Standard it was "hard to see" how a pub could work on the premises.
