Plans for a replica Syrian arch to be put in Trafalgar Square are being considered by officials at City Hall, according to reports.

One of the city of Palmyra's most important monuments - the entrance of the Temple of Bel - survived demolition by the so-called Islamic State, which has destroyed artifacts from Middle Eastern pre-Islamic history.

Now a full-size recreation is reportedly being built using the world's biggest 3D printer, according to the Telegraph.

If it is given the go ahead, the Palmyra arch would be on display during World Heritage Week in April.

It would be made of stone powder and a lightweight composite.

The 3D computer model was made using dozens of 2D photographs because the arch was damaged before it could be recorded with cameras.
