Police are hunting a man who was apparently trying to set Finsbury Park Mosque alight in a suspected hate crime.

Officers were called to the mosque at 10.15am this morning to reports that a man was trying to set it on fire.

The man, who was wearing a hood, is thought to have fled the scene on a moped after his attempts were unsuccessful. He was also spotted near the mosque at around 8.30pm last night.

The five floor mosque can hold almost two thousand worshippers. Nobody was hurt in the incident but police are asking anyone who may have seen what happened to come forward.
