Sixty firefighters are tackling a large fire which started at a derelict warehouse and has since spread to nearby flats in east London.

Eight fire engines were sent to the fire in Grenfell Avenue, Hornchurch after they were called just after 11.30am.

Half of the first floor of the warehouse is on fire and a fifth of the roof of two neighboring three storey blocks of flats is also on fire.

It is believed the warehouse, which measures 80 by 20 meters, has been derelict for some time.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
