London life expectancy: borough by borough

New figures show there's a significant gap in life expectancy - depending on which borough you live in.

The Office of National Statistics data shows the average life expectancy for a man living in London is now 79.6 years and 83.8 years for women.

But the borough-by-borough breakdown shows someone is likely to live much longer, if they reside in one of the capital's wealthier boroughs.

Among men, the gap is five years:

  • Kensington and Chelsea - 82.1 years

  • Harrow - 82.1 years

  • Richmond upon Thames - 81.7 years

  • Westminster - 81.4 years

  • Kingston upon Thames - 81.3 years

  • Barnet - 81.2 years

  • Bromley - 80.9 years

  • Camden - 80.4 years

  • Merton - 80.3 years

  • Sutton - 80.3 years

  • Enfield - 80.2 years

  • Bexley - 80.2 years

  • Redbridge - 80.2 years

  • Hillingdon - 79.9 years

  • Brent - 79.8 years

  • Croydon - 79.6 years

  • Hounslow - 79.4 years

  • Havering - 79.4 years

  • Haringey - 79.4 years

  • Ealing - 79.3 years

  • Waltham Forest - 79.2 years

  • Hammersmith and Fulham - 79.0 years

  • Wandsworth - 78.9 years

For women, the gap in life expectancy between the best and worst performing boroughs is slightly less at 4.3 years.

In the case of both men and women, London's life expectancy is slightly higher than the rest of the England.
