London barrister 'facing professional backlash' after calling out 'sexist' senior

A barrister who published a private message received on LinkedIn that she complained was sexist has said she is facing a professional backlash for speaking up.

Charlotte Proudman responded angrily after receiving a compliment on her photo from a senior partner at a law firm after inviting him to connect on the professional social network.

Writing in the Independent she said she "outed" the partner as she was shocked and appalled by his language, particularly considering his position within her profession.

Since posting the tweet she says she has been inundated with messages of support from other women posting their experiences of sexism on the site, but she has also been criticised by those who feel her reaction was unjustified.

She has also been subject to vicious trolling from men who have attacked her personally - and professionally.

More worrying, she says, is that several solicitors have contacted her to say they would not consider using her now. She told the Daily Mail:
