More than 100 firefighters tackle Wetherspoon pub fire in south east London
More than 100 firefighters tackled a huge fire at a south east London Wetherspoon pub this morning.
The fire broke out at about 9.30am in the boiler room of the New Cross Turnpike pub in Bellegrove Road, Welling.
Seven members of staff evacuated the building before the emergency services arrived.
The road was closed as fifteen fire engines battled to bring the fire under control.
They will remain on scene damping down to ensure another fire does not break out.
The police were called at 10.15am and London Ambulance Services are on the scene.
Residents reported seeing smoke billowing from the pub with parts of the first floor and roof being alight.
Bus routes 51, 89, 486, B15 and B16 are being diverted.
