Man in court after fatal hit-and-run of 58-year-old man

A 24-year-old man has appeared in court this morning after a fatal hit-and-run of a 58-year-old man in east London.

Derek Bernstein died in Hornchurch Road, Hornchurch on 23 July.

Jamie Capon of Tuck Road, Rainham appeared in custody at Barkingside Magistrates' Court after being arrested yesterday.

He is charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving while uninsured, failing to stop after an accident and another count for dangerous driving relating to a separate day.

A 56-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Both have been bailed to return to an east London police station on a date in late October pending further enquiries.
