A mural painted just over a week ago within Croydon's new "art quarter" has been painted over by the council, because it was deemed offensive to women.

The painting is a life drawing of a naked and limbless torso was removed by the council after they received complaints from the public.

Artrist Steve Johnson said he was confused by the reaction of the council, and blasted the removal as an attack on freedom of expression. He told the Croydon Advertiser he did not understand why it was deemed offensive.
