Smoke engulfs part of Hackney as crews tackle huge fire

A major fire in a row of shops on an east London street has been dealt with by 10 fire engines.

Emergency services were called to the fire on Yorkton Street in Hackney, east London, at around 1pm. A man was taken to hospital suffering burns and smoke inhalation.

Police have closed off the road and are urging pedestrians to keep away from the scene.

People living nearby were also asked to keep windows and doors closed as thick black smoke billowed from the fire.
