A Christian nursery worker who told a lesbian colleague 'God is not okay with what you do' has won a landmark discrimination case against her employer.

Sarah Mbuyi was sacked for gross misconduct three days after making the comments at the Newpark Childcare nursery in Shepherd's Bush.

The 31-year-old regular church goer had previously given her lesbian colleague a Bible as a gift.

When she was asked what she thought God would make of her work colleague being in a Civil partnership she said that God did not condone the practice of homosexuality, and then quoted the Bible saying "sin is sin", and "We are all sinners."

Her employer told her she had breached equal opportunities policies and had harassed her colleague.

The tribunal, disagreed and ruled unanimously that the decision to sack her may have been based on "stereotypical assumptions" about her and her beliefs and had not been proportionate.

Leading Christian Groups say the ruling is "a brave, common-sense judgment", which shows understanding of the Christian faith and Miss Mbuyi's freedom to live and speak it out in the workplace.
