Large police presence in Walthamstow for EDL march

Police were out in force in Walthamstow where the English Defence League (EDL) held a street march, in a bid to prevent clashes between rival groups.

Hundreds of people joined a counter-demonstration organised by Unite Against Facism (UAF) and We Are Waltham Forest.

Police say 14 people were arrested.

In 2012, a similar event resulted in scuffles and several people being arrested. This time, police have imposed special restrictions which limit the timeframe for the march and where it can take place.
