Architect of Labour's battle for London could set his sights on becoming Mayor of London
The architect of Labour's battle for London could now be pitched into a new contest in a bid to become Mayor of London.
Tooting MP Sadiq Khan, who devised Labour's strategy in the capital, was hoping to become Justice Secretary in an Ed Miliband government.
But tonight's exit poll pointing to a disastrous night for Labour appeared to dash his cabinet ambitions.
Khan is now expected to enter Labour's contest to choose a candidate for the 2016 mayoral election.
The move would put him head to head with favourite, former Olympics minister Tessa Jowell and fellow MPs David Lammy and Diane Abbott.
