Labour today promised to safeguard 'bobbies on the beat' in London but admitted cuts to neighbourhood policing teams would not be reversed.
The party claimed it could find £800m of savings in police budgets to protect 10,000 police jobs across the UK.
Labour has been highly critical of London's Conservative mayor, accusing him of axing 2,335 community police posts since 2010.
But shadow ministers made no mention of restoring the jobs in their crime manifesto launched today.
Scotland Yard Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe has warned current police numbers may have to be cut to plug a £1.4bn hole in the Met's budget.
