Jeweller armed with baseball bat chases off axe-wielding gang who stole £50,000 of watches

This is the moment a jeweller swings a baseball bat at two robbers who were raiding his store armed with an axe.

Mark Guess tried to defend his jewellers from the masked scooter gang that plundered up to £50,000 of watches and a £15,000 diamond ring.

The father-of-two bided his time until the armed pair left his store and struck one of them with his bat as they fled on their scooter, on Monday.

Mark said he saw red and was trying to protect his business, in Twickenham, West London.

The raiders kicked down the door at around 10.45am and the repeatedly smashed the front window with an axe before taking on a cabinet.

The armed robber filled his pockets with Rolexes, Cartiers and a diamond solitaire ring, before fleeing on the back of his partner's scooter.

He said his wife of nine years, Gosia, 36, who he has a four-year-old girl and two-year-old boy with, wasn't best pleased with him.He added:

Scotland Yard confirmed that detectives from the Flying Squad are investigating the smash and grab.No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.
