'Chewbacca' being treated for pneumonia after falling ill

Star Wars actor Peter Mayhew, who played the role of Chewbacca, is being treated in hospital for pneumonia.

The 70-year-old actor, who grew up in Barnes in South West London, was forced to cancel a personal appearance in Texas in the US after falling ill.

In a short statement on Twitter, Peter was reported to be recovering well.

In a further message on Reddit, Peter's wife added:

Mayhew is expected to take on the role of Chewbacca in Star Wars Edipode VII, due for release at the end of the year.
