Cameron to raise case of London 'terror suspect' held without trial for more than a decade
The Prime Minister is expected to raise the case of a 'terror suspect' from London held without trial by the Americans for more than a decade.
Shaker Aamer, a prisoner at the notorious Guantanamo Bay detention centre, is said to be in a 'fragile medical condition.'
Aamer, whose wife and four children live in Battersea, was captured by US forces in Afghanistan in 2002. His family say he was an aid worker.
A group of top health experts today joined growing calls for Aamer's release saying continued detention was having an appalling effect on his medical condition.
The 45-year-old, originally from Saudi Arabia, is said to be suffering from a range of illnesses including post-traumatic stress disorder and asthma.
The medics, including professors, consultants and GPs, have written a letter to the Daily Mail expressing frustration at the attitude of the Foreign Office.
The case of the man known as 'the last Briton in Guantanamo' is likely to be raised by David Cameron during his talks with President Obama in Washington this week.
