Churchill's former war office to be turned into a hotel and flats

The Ministry of Defence has sold off an historic building on Whitehall that was often used by Sir Winston Churchill during the Second World War. The Old War Office, which was completed in 1906, has been sold on a long-lease arrangement to the Hinduja Group who are reported to want to turn it into a hotel and residential apartments.

Apart from Churchill, Lord Kitchener and David Lloyd-George also used the building when they planned Britain's campaigns during the First World War. It was put up for sale last year as part of the MoD's drive to cut down on its costs of maintaining expensive buildings. Staff who currently work there are expected to transfer out over the next year.
