David Cameron 'open to suggestions' over more tax-raising powers for London Mayor
The Prime Minister says he’s open to the idea of giving London’s mayor greater power to raise taxes.
But in an interview with ITV News David Cameron also suggested he was happy with the current system of council tax funding for City Hall.
Boris Johnson has called on the government to allow the mayor to claim the proceeds for property taxes like Stamp Duty.
Labour leader Ed Miliband suggested last week his Shadow Chancellor would block any attempt to give the mayor extra tax-raising powers.
Mr Cameron also declined to speculate on a possible cabinet job for Johnson if the Conservatives win the general election.
