Labour leader Ed Miliband has suggested Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls will block any attempt to give London's mayor new tax raising powers.

Six senior Labour figures tipped as possible candidates for Mayor have all called for greater devolution in London.

But in an interview with ITV News Mr Miliband appeared reluctant to commit himself to the idea of the Mayor taking a greater share of London tax revenues.

Mr Miliband also dismissed a suggestion he was too gaffe-prone to be Prime Minister after apparently forgetting to mention the economy in his party conference speech. He said the speech was 'all about the economy.'
