Met Commissioner cut short interview to make arrest

The Metropolitan Police Commissioner cut short an interview to jump into a taxi and make an arrest this morning.

Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe arrested a 19-year-old man in suspicion of theft near Bruce Grove station in Tottenham after a taxi driver said his passengers had refused to pay the fare and had stolen his mobile phone.

An officer who was on patrol with the commissioner also reported of the arrest:

Sir Bernard was talking to BBC London 94.9 when he was approached by the minicab driver and had to stop the interview to carry out his duty.

The commissioner's bodyguard, who also got into the taxi with the Commissioner, arrested another suspect nearby, it is understood.
