Great white shark prank terrifies boaters in Finsbury

Video footage has captured the dramatic moment boaters screamed as they spotted a giant shark fin swimming directly towards their boat in Finsbury Park Lake.

Like a scene from Jaws, the shark fin appeared from below the murky water and headed in the direction of the horrified rowers.

A polystyrene fin mounted onto a frame with flotation devices was used to guide the shark in the prank.

A rowing boat with a huge bite taken out of it was also placed on the lake island to scare the rowers.

The whole scene was a prank set up by the Discovery Channel ahead of their Shark Week series of programmes which begins on Sunday.

A spokesman for the TV channel told London24: “When you go for a genteel early morning ride around the shallow Finsbury Park Boating Lake, the last thing you would expect to encounter is one of nature’s most renowned predators.

“All of the boaters saw the funny side and we can assure everyone that it is perfectly safe to go back in the water.”

At the end of July, another killer shark’ prank took place in an Islington fishmongers.
