World embassies notch up £75,364,182 in unpaid congestion charge

Embassies around the world have notched up more than £75 million in unpaid London congestion charge debt over the last decade.

Figures from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office show the total value of unpaid congestion charge since its introduction in February 2003 until the end of last year was £75,364,182.

Here are the top five embassies for unpaid congestion charge in London.

  • 1) US Embassy: 70,637 fines, total outstanding bill of £8,172,245

  • 2) Japanese Embassy: 48,520 fines, total outstanding bill of £5,623,040

  • 3) Russian Federation Embassy: 44,145 fines, total outstanding bill of £5,123,450

  • 4) High Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria: 39,604 fines, total outstanding bill of £4,552,745

  • 5) Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany: 34,051 fines, total outstanding bill of £3,928,680
