A fresh attempt to halt next week's tube strike was thrown into doubt as it emerged the RMT union may boycott new peace talks.

London Underground bosses say the RMT has failed to respond to an invitation to join other unions at a meeting this afternoon.

The dispute over ticket office closures sparked a 48-hour strike by RMT and TSSA union members in February.

LU wants to close 254 ticket offices and axe 950 jobs but has promised no compulsory redundancies.

More than 1,000 underground workers are said to have applied or "expressed interest" in applying for voluntary redundancy.

London Underground says more more than 40 meetings with union officials over eight weeks have led to a series of concessions.
