Killer's girlfriend faces jail over teen street stabbing
A woman who helped her boyfriend hide from the police after he brutally attacked and killed a teenager is facing jail - after being convicted of perverting the course of justice.
20-year-old Arber Barbatovci was one of five thugs who killed 16-year-old Hani Abou El Kheir in Pimlico because he lived on the wrong side of the street.
Arber Barbatovci fled to Bristol where his girlfriend, 20-year-old Donjeta Gashi, joined him and stayed with him at a hotel for two days. Gashi denied perverting the course of justice but was convicted by a jury today at the Old Bailey.
Hani Abou El Kheir died after he was stabbed 20 times. He was chased by a 10-strong gang armed with an array of weapons. He was stabbed in a brutal attack near his home in Pimlico last January.
The teenager was assaulted with weapons including swords, a meat cleaver, knives and a Taser stun gun, he was forced to the ground where he was stabbed through the heart and left for dead.
Arber Barbatovci, 26-year-old Craig Boyce, 20-year-old Ahmed Mikhaimar, 19-year-old Tarquai Josep and a fifth man who cannot be named, were convicted at the Old Bailey of murdering Hani.
The murder was the result of a bitter rivalry between two local street gangs. After killing him the group ran off in different directions leaving Hani to die on the ground in Lupus Street. They will be sentenced on Friday.
