Overcrowding on London's buses set to get worse
London's buses are set to get busier and busier due to increasing levels of overcrowding, according to a new report from the London Assembly.
The report calls for the Mayor and Transport for London to lay out how they plan to deal with expanding numbers of passengers using London's buses over the coming years.
Unlike the Underground and rail networks, the subsidy amount for London buses will remain the same up to 2014-2015, as will the number of kilometres buses travel.
TfL currently projects bus passenger numbers in London to increase by 1% a year up to 2021-22 but this is in sharp contrast to growth of 4% a year from 2001-02 to 2011-12.
A survey conducted by the Assembly revealed the following:
More than a quarter of passengers indicated their bus route was already overcrowded.
More than half said passenger numbers had increased on their routes over the past 12 months.
Below is a list of the ten most crowded bus routes in London, according to the Assembly survey.
