30% of trains arrive late

Figures from Network Rail have revealed that many of the train companies that run services into London are struggling to get them to arrive on time. The research found that across the country only 69.2% of trains arrived at the "right-time", within a minute of the timetable. Among the worst performers were Virgin Trains who got only 54.1% of trains on time in the 12 months up to December. Here is the list:

  • London Overground - 88.4%

  • Chiltern Railways - 84.7%

  • c2c Rail - 84.3%

  • East Midland Trains - 76.8%

  • Greater Anglia - 71.2%

  • First Capital Connect - 71.7%

  • First Great Western - 70.6%

  • South West Trains - 68.2%

  • East Coast - 68%

  • Southeastern - 65.8%

  • London Midland - 65.7%

  • Southern - 56.9%

  • Virgin Trains - 54.1%

Network Rail also released figures detailing how many trains arrived within five minutes (for regional and south-east services) or ten minutes (for long-distance services) of their scheduled arrival time. The average national figure for the 12 months was 91.5% but Virgin Trains had the worst record of the train operators with 86%.
