The south-east's existing theme parks and attractions

There are plans to bring a new theme park to Swanscombe in Kent, but there is already plenty on offer in the south-east.

Here are just a few of the attractions that Londoners have to choose from.

THORPE PARK

Ticket price: Adults £43.20, children (under 12) £33.60, children under one metre go free. Various discounts available.

Location: Chertsey, Surrey

Opening times: Opens 10am. Closing times vary according to the season.

Description: Dozens of roller-coasters for adrenaline junkies.

Highlights: The Saw. A 100ft vertical drop roller-coaster which will see you travel at up to 55mph.

CHESSINGTON WORLD OF ADVENTURES

Ticket price: Adults £42, children £30. Discounts available for online bookings and for groups, students, seniors, and disabled people.

Location: Chessington, Surrey.

Opening times: Opens 10am. Closing times vary according to the season.

Description: Rides, zoo and sea-life centre.

Highlights: Fly like a bat out of hell on the Vampire roller-coaster.

LONDON ZOO

Ticket price: Prices vary according to the season. Adults from £20.00 to £23. Children from £15.50 to £17. Babies and toddlers free. Various concessions and discounts available.

Location: Regent's Park

Opening times: Zoo opens 10am. Closing time varies according to the season.

Description: More than 700 species of animals, including 118 types of bird, 229 types of fish, and 239 types of invertebrate.

Highlights: A spooky schedule of activities for Halloween, including chilling storytelling, owl encounters and creepy crafts.

LONDON AQUARIUM

Ticket price: Adults £19.80, children (3-15) £14,40, babies and toddlers (under 3) free. Family and online discounts available.

Location: Westminster Bridge Road, Central London.

Opening times: Mon-Thurs:10am-6pm. Fri-Sun:10am-7pm

Description: Thousands of creatures in over two-million litres of water.

Highlights: Go snorkeling with sharks and get a special behind the scenes tour.

LEGOLAND

Ticket price: Adults £44, children £34.50. Various discounts available.

Location: Windsor

Opening times: Park opens 10am. Various closing times according to the season.

Description: More than 55 interactive rides, live shows, building workshops and attractions.

Highlights: A fire-breathing dragon made entirely of lego bricks.
