More Troops For the Olympic Games
They were meant to be on stand-by - now they're fully committed. Twelve hundred more troops have been added to the defence of London's Olympics. That's on top of the extra 3,500 Army personnel drafted in just a few weeks ago, after security provider G4S admitted it would fail to deliver enough guards.
Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt said today that this last batch is now being used because ministers "don't want to leave anything to chance."
