Sir Michael Caine honoured in Southwark

Sir Michael Caine has been awarded the Freedom of the Borough by Southwark Council.

The double Oscar-winning actor was born in Rotherhithe, where there is already a blue plaque in his honour.

The council said he had been "an exceptional ambassador for the place where he grew up."

A formal award ceremony was held at St George’s Cathedral today.
