Call to make homelessness a national emergency
There are calls for the government to follow Manchester's lead in TRYING to bring an end to the homelessness crisis. Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has vowed to end rough sleeping in the city in the next two years. The Mayor's 'A Bed Every Night' scheme has helped more than one thousand four hundred people, including finding long-term homes for a third of them. It'll now be extended for another 12 months. But there are concerns homeless people with mental health issues are slipping through the net.
