Major Incident declared as crews battle major grass fire on Saddleworth Moor

A Major Incident has been declared on the moors above Manchester, as fire crews battle with a huge grass fire on Saddleworth Moor.

More than 30 homes have been evacuated, and people are being advised to keep doors and windows shut. Those with asthma or other breathing problems should keep their medication with them at all times.

One of the moorland blazes that firefighters have been tackling for three weeks is now out.

Manchester Fire service have confirmed that the blaze on Saddleworth Moor is now out and they have withdrawn all crews from the site.

Although with more warm weather forecast they have advised visitors to moorland to ensure they remain aware of risks - such as disposable barbeques and leaving litter that could cause new fires.
