Firefighters tackling another wildfire in region

Firefighters have been tackling a massive wildfire at Rivington Pike in Lancashire this evening.

Images taken by a drone in the air show the fire spreading across the moors as firefighters work to bring the fire under control.

The Deputy Chief Fire Officer for Lancashire, Justin Johnston, said that the wildfire might have occurred given the long dry spell of weather.

On his Twitter page, he said:

We currently have seven fire engines and approx 35 firefighters fighting wildfires above Rivington.

It's very dry on the moors so please take care.

We've been aware that this might occur given the long dry spell. Fortunately crews are well trained and well equipped with special wildfire procedures.

Please take extra care while this beautiful weather continues.

– The Deputy Chief Fire Officer for Lancashire, Justin Johnston

This latest fire comes just hours after fire officers in Stalybridge had to battle another wildfire.

Manchester Fire Services were first called nearby the Carbrook and Buckton Vale areas at 8:20pm last night.
