Governor of HMP Liverpool called before MPs
The governor of HMP Liverpool is being called to give evidence before a Parliamentary Committee.
It comes after a report which branded the jail as one of the worst inspectors have ever seen.
Inspectors found the site in Walton to be squalid and failed to offer a safe, decent or purposeful environment.
Drugs were readily available and many cells had broken windows with dangerous jagged glass, damp, leaks and broken or blocked toilets.
Their report stated that violence of all kinds had increased, with assaults on staff more than tripling compared with the last assessment in 2015.
