CCTV captures moment convicted murder escapes during hospital visit

A murderer who was serving a minimum of 30 years in prison is on the run after escaping during an escorted hospital visit in Liverpool.

Two men threatened prison officers with a gun and a knife as Shaun Walmsley escaped outside Aintree Hospital.

Police reveal more details about missing murderer's getaway car

Police searching for convicted murderer Shaun Colin Walmsley have released more details of the car used in his get escape. Walmsley escaped after two armed men ambushed the car he was travelling in during an escorted visit to Aintree Hospital.

Officers now believe the gold coloured Volvo, registration MW02 XHE, that was used, had been parked in the Adlam Crescent area of Fazakerley from around 12 midday with at least one man inside, before travelling to Aintree University Hospital where it was seen parked from around 1.25pm.

The car was found in the Adlam Crescent area at 8pm last night and will be subject of forensic examination. Police are asking anyone with any information to contact them.

"We will be relentless in our pursuit of Walmsley and the men who helped him to escape and we need the public's help to find him and put him back behind bars. We are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who may have seen the Gold Volvo used in the incident.

If spotted Walmsley should not be approached, as he could be in the company of the others who helped him escape and they are believed to be armed. Walmsley himself is also described as dangerous.

Officers would ask anyone who has seen him, knows where he is, or anyone who saw this car in the area, to contact the police on 999, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
