Christmas flooding: December storms bring misery to North West

Communities across the North West have been hit severe flooding over Christmas and the New Year after a series of December storms wreaked havoc on the country. The Army and an RAF chinook have helped avert disaster in the Lancashire village of Croston where three severe flood warnings were in place.

Frustration over closure of Victoria Bridge in Cumbria

Residents in flood-hit Kendal in Cumbria have spoken of their continued frustration over the closure of a badly damaged bridge in the middle of the town.

December's record rainfall has forced the closure of Victoria Bridge, one of the areas's main traffic routes.

The council say it won't open until the weather improves, much to the despair of local businesses.
