A woman who lied about having terminal cancer has apologised. Linda Moon, 33, said she had incurable bowel cancer and it was her dying wish to see Preston North End promoted to the Championship. Linda had been given signed shirts and had even had visits from some of her footballing heroes.

Linda has now given an interview to Rock Fm after rumours began to circulate on twitter that her story wasn't all it seemed. It followed the emergence of a text message from her brother which threw the illness into doubt. Linda does however, have a vascular disease which does require treatment.

She said: “It came out as cancer and it all just spiralled out of control and I couldn’t get out of it.” She added: "I've hurt and upset a lot of people, all I can do, sincerely from my heart is apologise."

Linda says she will get help and has already made an appointment, she says she is in contact with the police over concerns for her safety.
