Blackpool teen injured in drunken fall, not gay attack
It has been revealed a Blackpool teenager, who claimed he was injured in a homophobic attack, was hurt after falling down stairs at a Preston night club.
CCTV reviewed by police show 18-year-old Richard Kennedy plummeting to the pavement head-first after a night out.
Richard posted a picture on Facebook saying 'Here is my face after a homophobic attack: four of my teeth are gone, not fallen out but deep inside my gums and cheek...."
Lancashire police say they will not prosecute, as they believe the assault was reported in 'good faith' at the time."
Detective Inspector Paddy O’Neill said:
"Lancashire Constabulary is committed to ensuring that all forms of hate crime are investigated thoroughly; any reports made to the police will be taken seriously.
"I am conscious that the initial reports into this incident will have been very upsetting for a number of people, and Preston city centre was portrayed in a very negative light.
"Thankfully, there was no homophobic assault or any other assault on this occasion.”
