Relatives of murdered soldier Lee Rigby will attend an Armistice Day service in Bury. The Royal Fusilier died after being attacked in London earlier this year. His mother Lyn is expected to give a reading at the regimental museum this morning.

Council honours war dead

Staff and councillors at Cheshire East Council have paid their respects on Armistice Day.

Council leader Cllr Michael Jones said: “We should not forget that British service men and women are still serving their country in conflicts overseas, with some sadly paying the ultimate sacrifice.

“Only last week, Warrant Officer Ian Fisher, a soldier from the Mercian Regiment was killed in Afghanistan.

“This Council has close links to the Regiment and we send our very sincere condolences to Warrant Officer Fisher’s family.”
