Prison staff suspended

Five members of staff at Belmarsh Prison have been suspended after one of the men accused of killing Fusilier Lee Rigby lost two teeth whilst being restrained. Michael Adebolajo suffered the injury on Wednesday.

Prison staff hit out over Adebolajo suspensions

The Prison Officers Association have reacted angrily to the news that five of its members have been suspended over allegations that one of the men charged with killing Fusilier Lee Rigby has been injured whilst being restrained. Michael Adebolajo lost two teeth at Belmarsh Prison.

"Five members of prison staff have been suspended while police investigations are ongoing."

"The POA are aware of an incident that took place on Wednesday July 17, which involved a prisoner being subjected to restraint using approved techniques called Control and Restraint. Our members strenuously deny any wrongdoing and the POA will be supporting them legally and emotionally during this difficult time. The use of restraint is only used where necessary when dealing with incidents up and down the country."
