Generator fumes caused boat deaths

A mother and her 10-year-old daughter died after being poisoned by carbon monoxide fumes as they slept on a moored boat on Windermere, according to the initial findings of a marine accident investigation.

Tributes have been paid to a mother and daughter from Leyland who died from suspected gas poisoning on a boat in the Lake District.

Matthew Eteson, from Leyland, was on the boat with Kelly Webster and Lauren Thornton. He was taken to hospital for treatment after falling ill on and has now been released.

Investigators are trying to establish if a faulty generator may have been responsible.
