Preston Guild started back in 1179 - sharing a heritage of over 800 years. It is the only Guild still celebrated in the UK.

Hundreds of hereditary burgesses have been admitted to the guild court as part of Preston's 2012 Guild celebrations.
It's a tradition that dates back to the 12th century when merchants were only allowed to trade in the town if they paid a small fee.
