Book of condolence opened for Winnie Johnson

A book of condolance has opened for Winnie Johnson at her local church ahead of her funeral on Thursday.

The mother of Moors murder victim Keith Bennett died not knowing where her son was buried by Ian Brady and Myra Hindley.

The church is also raising funds for a memorial garden as a lasting tribute to Winnie.

Canon Ian Gomersall of St Chrysostom's Church in Longsight, Manchester, said Mrs Johnson had a sense of fun about her despite "her tragedy and the sorrow that she bore".
